In 2018, Hyper Recruitment Solutions were chosen to help the UK government appoint a new Government Chemist.
This was the first time in more than 100 years that an external recruiting agency had been asked to assist with the selection of a suitable candidate for this prestigious position.
Ricky Martin, qualified biochemist and founder of Hyper Recruitment Solutions, oversaw this appointment personally and helped to ensure that only the most capable candidates were put forward for the role of Government Chemist.
The search for a new Government Chemist was spearheaded by HRS founder Ricky Martin, himself a qualified biochemist with a degree from Cardiff University. In partnership with LGC, a leading laboratory services organisation, Ricky and the HRS team made sure the search went smoothly and efficiently.
In the end, it was decided that Dr Julian Braybrook – a seasoned member of the scientific community with an impressive CV and a PhD from the University of Cambridge – would succeed the incumbent Government Chemist, Dr Derek Craston.
Dr Braybrook took up the position on 1 June 2018, and HRS had the additional honour of helping the UK’s 15th Government Chemist to recruit talented staff for his team.
Here’s what Dr Braybrook had to say about working with Ricky Martin and Hyper Recruitment Solutions:

Here’s what Dr Braybrook had to say about working with Ricky Martin and Hyper Recruitment Solutions:
“My first time working with Ricky was in support of both my own career and recruiting into my team. Ricky came highly recommended through reputation from colleagues. This was evident in all my contact with Ricky, and it was a real pleasure working with him throughout both processes. His approach was personal, engaging and passionate; it is clear he is committed to supporting science and helping those within it to achieve their full potential.
Despite Ricky being tasked with a tough recruitment assignment, one not previously positioned by my team in the external market, he delivered strong short-list candidate options, one of which, happily, was recruited successfully. I also found myself being appointed as the new UK Government Chemist.
I would recommend Ricky highly to others seeking senior science recruitment positions, and I look forward to working with him again.” Dr Julian Braybrook, Government Chemist
